December in Dubai is one of the best times to sort your car. Weather is pleasant, garages aren't yet at peak summer demand, and you can enter the new year knowing your vehicle is in good shape. Here are the 10 checks worth completing before January.
-
Engine Oil Level and Condition
Check the dipstick — is the oil at the correct level? Is it clear amber or already dark brown? If it's due for a change by mileage or date, December is a good time to do it.
-
Battery Load Test
A battery weakened by summer heat may fail in January's cooler mornings when internal resistance increases. A load test (not just a voltage check) will tell you if it's time for a replacement before it leaves you stranded.
-
Brake Pad Thickness
Check front and rear brake pad depth. Most vehicles have a minimum of 2mm before replacement is required, but 4mm gives a sensible buffer. December's pleasant driving weather means more social trips and weekend drives — you want your brakes reliable.
-
Tyre Condition and Pressure
Cooler December temperatures drop tyre pressure 4–5 PSI versus summer settings. Check and adjust pressure. Inspect sidewalls for cracks and tread for uneven wear patterns indicating alignment issues.
-
Coolant Level and Concentration
Confirm coolant is at the correct mark and appears clean. Degraded coolant turns rust-brown and loses its anti-corrosion properties. A coolant flush every 2 years is the standard recommendation.
-
Air Filter
After a UAE summer with sandstorm activity, air filters can be heavily clogged. A blocked air filter reduces engine efficiency and in extreme cases allows fine particles to reach sensitive engine components.
-
Cabin Air Filter
Often forgotten. The cabin air filter has been cleaning dusty Dubai air continuously. A blocked cabin filter reduces AC efficiency and can allow unfiltered air into the interior. Replacement is typically 100–200 AED.
-
Wiper Blades
UAE's rare winter rains hit hard. Test your wipers before the first rain — if they streak, smear or chatter, replace them now rather than during a downpour on Sheikh Zayed Road.
-
AC Performance Check
After five months of continuous summer operation, have the AC performance checked even if it seems fine. Refrigerant pressure should be in spec and the condenser should be clean of dust and road debris.
-
OBD Diagnostic Scan
A quick diagnostic scan reveals any pending fault codes that haven't yet triggered a warning light. Catching issues at the early code stage is almost always cheaper than waiting for the symptom to appear.
Most of these checks can be completed in a single workshop visit. The combined result is that your car enters 2026 in known condition — no surprises hiding in the system.
