General Maintenance

6 questions

Most manufacturers recommend servicing every 10,000–15,000 km or every 12 months, whichever comes first. In Dubai's extreme heat, we recommend the shorter interval — every 10,000 km or 6 months — especially for engine oil and filters. Constant AC use, stop-start traffic, and high ambient temperatures all accelerate wear.

Our standard service includes: engine oil and filter change (correct specification for your car), all fluid level checks and top-ups, visual brake inspection, tyre pressure check, lights and wipers check, and a 20-point safety inspection. We also reset your service interval counter. Our FixPRIME and FixELITE packages add cabin filter, spark plugs, OBD scan, battery test, AC check, and more.

A standard oil service typically takes 45–90 minutes. A more comprehensive service (including filter replacement, brake inspection and diagnostics) takes 2–3 hours. We offer same-day service for most jobs — WhatsApp us your car details and we will confirm a time slot that suits you.

Yes. FixHive uses OEM-grade parts that meet or exceed manufacturer specifications. For oil changes we always use the correct viscosity and specification for your specific model — not a generic substitute. We also stock genuine filters and other consumables for most common makes including Toyota, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Hyundai, and more.

Yes — FixHive services all major makes and models: Japanese (Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Lexus, Mazda, Mitsubishi), European (BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Volkswagen, Porsche, Land Rover, Jaguar, Volvo), American (Ford, Chevrolet, Jeep), Korean (Hyundai, Kia, Genesis), and EVs (Tesla, IONIQ, EV6). Browse our brand pages for brand-specific information.

Yes. We regularly service non-GCC spec vehicles — also known as export or personal import cars. These often require slightly different oil specifications or fuel octane ratings, and may not have local dealer support. Our technicians are familiar with spec differences and will advise on the correct parts and fluids.

Tyres & Wheels

5 questions

We recommend tyre rotation every 10,000–12,000 km. Dubai's hot asphalt accelerates uneven wear — particularly on front-wheel-drive cars where the front tyres steer, drive and brake simultaneously. Regular rotation evenly distributes wear and can extend tyre life by 30–40%.

Always follow the manufacturer's recommended cold tyre pressure (found on the driver's door jamb sticker). In Dubai, check tyre pressure when the car has been parked for at least 3 hours — hot tyres read 4–6 PSI higher than cold. Never release air from a hot tyre to match a cold pressure reading. Under-inflation is the leading cause of tyre failure in the UAE.

Replace tyres when tread depth reaches 1.6 mm (the legal minimum in the UAE) — most tyres have wear indicators built into the tread. Also replace tyres that are 5 years old regardless of tread depth, as rubber degrades in UAE heat and UV. Visible cracking on the sidewall, bulges, or persistent vibration are also immediate replacement indicators.

Yes. Wheel alignment corrects the angle of your wheels to the road — misalignment causes uneven tyre wear and pulling to one side. Wheel balancing corrects weight imbalances that cause vibration at speed. We recommend both whenever you fit new tyres or after any significant pothole impact. Learn more on our Tyres & Wheels service page.

We work with all major tyre brands including Michelin, Bridgestone, Continental, Pirelli, Goodyear, Dunlop, Yokohama and Hankook. Our advisors will recommend the right tyre for your car, driving style and budget. Premium brands are recommended for high-performance vehicles; mid-range options perform excellently for everyday driving in Dubai conditions.

Preventive Maintenance

5 questions

Preventive maintenance means servicing your car on a schedule before problems develop — not waiting for something to break. In Dubai, extreme heat (45°C+) accelerates degradation of fluids, belts, batteries, rubber seals, and cooling systems. Regular preventive service catches small issues before they become expensive repairs. The cost of prevention is always a fraction of the cost of repair.

For fully synthetic oil: every 7,500–10,000 km or 6 months (whichever comes first). For semi-synthetic or mineral oil: every 5,000 km or 4 months. In Dubai, we lean toward the shorter interval due to high heat loading. Always use the correct viscosity for your specific engine — Toyota, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen Group engines in particular have strict oil specifications.

Every 2 years or 40,000 km. Coolant degrades over time — it loses its anti-corrosion and anti-boil properties, and acidic old coolant actively corrodes aluminium engine components. In Dubai's heat, a cooling system that's running on degraded coolant is one traffic jam away from an overheating incident. We always flush and refill with the correct coolant specification for your car brand.

Every 2 years regardless of mileage. Brake fluid is hygroscopic — it absorbs moisture from the air, which lowers its boiling point. Old, contaminated brake fluid can boil under heavy braking, causing brake fade or complete failure. We test brake fluid moisture content during every inspection and recommend replacement when it exceeds 3% water content.

Our 20-point inspection checks: engine oil level and condition, coolant level, brake fluid, power steering fluid, transmission fluid, windscreen washer fluid, battery voltage and condition, all brake pad thicknesses, tyre tread depth and pressure, tyre sidewall condition, all exterior lights, wiper blade condition, air filter condition, cabin filter condition, belt condition, AC operation, suspension visual check, exhaust condition, and steering free-play. Included free with every service.

Paint Protection Film (PPF)

6 questions

PPF is a clear thermoplastic urethane film applied to a car's painted surfaces — typically bonnet, bumper, side mirrors, door edges and roof. It protects against stone chips, road debris, light scratches, bird drops and UV fading. High-quality PPF is virtually invisible, self-healing (minor scratches disappear in sunlight or heat), and preserves your car's paint in new condition.

Premium PPF films (such as XPEL, Llumar or Suntek) typically carry a 7–10 year manufacturer warranty. In Dubai's UV-intense climate, the quality of the film and the quality of installation matter significantly. Cheaper films can yellow or peel within 2–3 years. We only use reputable, warrantied films and install them under controlled conditions.

PPF is a physical film that provides impact and scratch protection — it absorbs the damage so your paint doesn't. Ceramic coating is a liquid polymer that bonds chemically to your paint, providing hydrophobic (water-beading), UV-resistant and easy-to-clean properties, but offers minimal physical protection. The two are complementary: many clients apply a ceramic coating over their PPF for maximum protection and gloss. We offer both — see our Detailing & Protection page.

Gloss PPF is virtually invisible — it enhances the depth of your paint and is undetectable at normal viewing distance. Matte PPF transforms the finish of a gloss car to a satin/matte look. Neither option changes the colour of your car. Edge wraps and installation quality are the main differentiators — poor installation can create visible edges or trapped dust bubbles.

A partial PPF (bonnet, bumpers, mirrors, door cups) takes 1–2 days. A full-car PPF wrap takes 3–5 days depending on the vehicle and complexity. The car must be thoroughly decontaminated and clay-bar cleaned before installation — this preparation is included in our service and is essential for a quality result.

Yes — quality PPF installed correctly can be removed cleanly without damaging underlying paint, provided the paint is in good condition. This is one of the major advantages of PPF over paint wraps. After removal, your car's paint will be in the same condition it was when the film was applied — protected from 7–10 years of environmental damage.

Paint Protection & Detailing

5 questions

Ceramic coating bonds to your car's clear coat and creates a hardened, hydrophobic layer. Benefits include: extreme water beading (dirt washes off more easily), UV protection (prevents paint oxidation and fading in Dubai's sun), resistance to chemical staining (bird drops, tree sap, bug splatter), enhanced gloss, and easier maintenance. It does not protect against physical impact — for that, you need PPF.

Consumer-grade ceramic coatings last 1–2 years. Professional-grade coatings (applied by trained installers like FixHive) last 3–7 years depending on the product tier and how the car is maintained. Regular maintenance washes (avoiding automatic car washes with rotating brushes) significantly extend the coating's life. We carry multiple tiers to suit different budgets and requirements.

Paint decontamination removes embedded iron particles (from brake dust and road debris), industrial fallout, tar, and tree sap that a standard wash cannot remove. It typically involves a chemical iron remover followed by clay bar treatment. You need decontamination before any paint protection application (PPF or ceramic coating) and ideally as part of a machine polish. Without it, contamination is sealed under the protection film.

Absolutely — and we recommend it. Paint correction uses machine polishing to remove surface imperfections: swirl marks (typically caused by incorrect washing technique), light scratches, water spot etching, and oxidation. The correction stage should always precede ceramic coating or PPF application — otherwise you are sealing the defects in. We offer single-stage, two-stage and multi-stage correction depending on the severity and your goals.

For daily drivers in Dubai: a full detail every 6 months, with a maintenance wash every 4–6 weeks. The UAE environment — sand, heat, UV, and humidity — is particularly aggressive on paintwork. Cars without ceramic coating will oxidise and fade noticeably if not regularly maintained. Vehicles with ceramic coating need less frequent detail work but still benefit from an annual inspection and top-up service.

AC & Cooling

5 questions

In Dubai, your car's AC system runs almost continuously for 8–9 months of the year, often under full load in 45°C+ ambient temperatures. This puts enormous stress on the compressor, condenser, and refrigerant circuit. An AC failure in summer is not just an inconvenience — it is a safety risk. Annual AC servicing catches refrigerant leaks, compressor wear, and condenser fouling before they cause complete system failure. Visit our AC & Cooling service page.

A correctly functioning AC system should not need regular recharging — refrigerant does not get "used up." If your AC is losing cooling performance, it indicates a leak. We diagnose the source of the leak, repair it, then recharge the system. Repeatedly topping up without fixing the leak wastes money and is harmful to the environment. Book an inspection before summer rather than waiting until your AC fails in peak heat.

Key signs include: blowing warm or less cold than usual; unpleasant musty or mouldy smell; weak airflow even on maximum fan setting; clicking or grinding noise from the AC compressor; water dripping inside the cabin; or the AC compressor cycling on and off rapidly. Any of these warrant a prompt inspection — small AC faults escalate quickly in Dubai's heat.

Yes. AC use increases fuel consumption by 8–20% depending on the outside temperature, car size, and AC demand. A well-maintained AC system is significantly more efficient than a poorly maintained one — a leaking system that has to work harder uses more fuel. Parking in shade and using a sunscreen also reduces AC load, improving economy.

A standard AC inspection and recharge takes 1.5–2 hours. If we find a leak or compressor fault, additional diagnosis and repair time is required — we will always confirm the scope and quote before proceeding with any additional work. Most AC services are completed same day.

Engine & Transmission

5 questions

The check engine light (MIL — malfunction indicator lamp) can indicate anything from a loose fuel cap to a misfiring cylinder or catalytic converter fault. It requires an OBD diagnostic scan to read the fault codes. Do not ignore it — some faults cause progressive engine damage if left unaddressed. We offer same-day diagnostic scanning; WhatsApp us and we'll get you booked in quickly. See our Advanced Diagnostics page.

Signs that an engine may need significant repair include: excessive oil consumption (more than 1 litre per 2,000 km), white smoke from the exhaust (head gasket or valve seal issue), blue smoke (burning oil), persistent misfires, severe knocking or rattling, or very low compression on a cylinder pressure test. We carry out full engine diagnostics before recommending any major repair — we won't suggest an overhaul without evidence-based diagnosis.

Every 60,000–80,000 km for most automatic gearboxes. The common myth of "lifetime fluid" is just that — a myth. Gearbox fluid degrades with heat and use. In Dubai's heat, we recommend servicing at 60,000 km intervals for all automatics. Symptoms of a neglected gearbox include: jerky or delayed shifts, slipping between gears, shudder on light acceleration, and overheating. A fluid service is a fraction of the cost of a gearbox replacement.

We always use the specification required by your car's manufacturer — not a generic grade. For example: Toyota engines typically require 0W-20 fully synthetic; BMW requires LL-01 or LL-04 certified oil; Mercedes-Benz requires MB 229.5 or MB 229.51; Volkswagen Group requires VW 504.00/507.00. Using the wrong oil specification risks increased wear and can void warranty claims. We carry the correct specification for every major brand.

Yes. We use multi-brand professional diagnostic platforms that communicate with all modules across all major manufacturers — not just generic OBD scanners. This means we can access engine, gearbox, ABS, airbag, body control, TPMS, and infotainment systems. For BMW and Mercedes-Benz specifically, we have brand-specific software that enables coding and module programming in addition to fault reading.

Brakes & Suspension

5 questions

Common signs include: a high-pitched squealing when braking (the wear indicator touching the rotor), a grinding or metallic noise (pad completely worn — immediate attention needed), a longer stopping distance than usual, a vibrating or pulsating brake pedal, or your brake warning light illuminating. We visually inspect brake pad thickness on every service visit and advise when replacement is approaching. See our Brakes & Suspension page.

Brake pads are the friction material that clamps against the rotating disc (rotor) to slow the car. Brake discs (rotors) are the metal discs attached to the wheel hub. Pads wear faster and need more frequent replacement. Discs last longer but must be replaced when they become too thin (below minimum thickness) or develop scoring, warping, or cracking. Always replace pads and discs together on the same axle for even braking.

Signs of suspension issues include: pulling to one side while driving, excessive body roll on corners, bouncing or wallowing over bumps (worn shock absorbers), clunking or knocking over speed bumps or potholes, uneven tyre wear, or a steering wheel that vibrates. Dubai's speed bumps are particularly aggressive — many residents experience accelerated suspension wear compared to other markets. Early intervention prevents expensive secondary damage to steering components and tyres.

Yes. Worn shock absorbers allow the tyre to bounce and skip on the road surface rather than maintaining consistent contact. This causes feathering, cupping, and uneven wear patterns that quickly destroy an otherwise healthy tyre. Misalignment caused by worn suspension components also causes accelerated edge wear. Addressing suspension faults early saves significant money in avoidable tyre replacement.

A front or rear brake pad and disc replacement typically takes 1–2 hours. A full four-wheel brake service takes 2–3 hours. We always include a brake fluid moisture test and recommend fluid change if it exceeds 3% water content. Same-day service is available for most brake jobs — contact us in the morning and your car will be ready the same afternoon.

EV & Hybrid

5 questions

Yes. FixHive has invested in specialist EV and hybrid training, safety equipment, and diagnostic tools. We service Toyota Prius, Lexus RX/ES/UX hybrids, Toyota Land Cruiser hybrids, Honda Jazz/CR-V hybrids, Hyundai IONIQ 5, Kia EV6, BMW i3/i4/iX, and more. Visit our Hybrid & EV service page for full details.

We service Tesla vehicles for non-high-voltage work: tyre changes, wheel alignment, brake service (including regenerative braking system inspection), cabin filter replacement, HVAC service, and general maintenance. High-voltage battery repairs require Tesla-authorised service. For most day-to-day maintenance needs, we offer a significantly more convenient and cost-effective alternative to the Tesla service centre.

EVs eliminate several traditional maintenance items: no engine oil changes, no timing belt, no exhaust system, no spark plugs, no clutch. However, EVs still require: tyre service (often more frequently due to heavy battery weight and instant torque), brake inspections, cabin air filter replacement, coolant system service (for battery thermal management), windscreen washer fluid top-ups, and regular software/diagnostics checks.

Toyota and Lexus hybrids follow a standard 10,000 km/12-month service interval for consumables (oil, filters, fluids). The hybrid battery system is generally maintenance-free but benefits from periodic health checks — we can test your hybrid battery's state of health and individual cell balance. In our experience, most Toyota Prius and Lexus hybrids in Dubai run for 200,000+ km with proper regular maintenance.

Yes. We can read hybrid battery fault codes, test state of health, and check individual cell voltages on Toyota, Lexus, Honda and Hyundai hybrid systems. A declining hybrid battery typically shows reduced fuel economy, reduced EV-mode operation, and increased engine running time. Early diagnosis allows for targeted cell replacement rather than full pack replacement — significantly reducing cost.
